Episode Three | Supporting the mother and liberating the woman with Amy Taylor Kabbaz

Hey my love,

This is episode three with Amy Taylor-Kabbas.

I would describe Amy as a pioneer in changing the way we support women to transition into and experience motherhood. She would describe herself a Matrescene activist.

Early into my experience of motherhood I had this sense that I was meant to be thriving more, a whisper that it could look different to what I had been modelled and yet, I couldn’t really find evidence of that in my reality. Discovering Amy and her work acknowledged what my body knew to be true, that there was a difference between the act of mothering and what it meant to be a mother. Learning about Matrescene has been a sweet exhale for me and I see the shoulders of my clients soften when they come to understand what actually happens to us when we become mothers. In planning out this podcast I knew this conversation was so important and meaningful and needed for us as modern-day women and mothers. I spent most of this conversation with Amy nodding profusely as she eloquently invites women into a new way, one where we support the mother and liberate the woman.

In this episode we chat about:

- What matrescene is and what happens to a woman when she becomes a mother

- The identify shift we experience in motherhood

- Why we self-silent and get perfect in our role as mothers

- Understanding the inner split and the universal experience of mothers

- Finding our voices and speaking up for our needs and desires

- Understanding matrescene as an invitation to explore our desires

- Acknowledging the women as well as the mother

- The difference between mothering and what it is to be a mother

- The cultural story that is no longer serving us

- The different entry points into matrescene

- Why preparation is so importance for thriving in motherhood

- What thriving looks like when we understand matrescene
